Featured Workshop Descriptions

Shifting Our Purpose in Education

Our education model needs a major paradigm shift if we want to be an instrumental part of creating a better world. This workshop redefines that purpose and the inner and outer work required to transform the schooling experience. This will, ultimately, elevate the type of human being the student becomes upon graduation and the way they contribute to the betterment of society.

In this workshop, educators will examine the purpose driving everything they do in their educational practice to explore the WHY driving their work, student outcomes, paths human beings take as they enter adulthood, and ultimately, how this all contributes to the world we live in. This workshop will cause a radical perspective shift for administrators, teachers, ed tech leaders, parents, and community members, accompanied by tools for immediate action that will transform the way students experience school. As Simon Sinek shares, starting with the WHY is the only way to drive sustained, inspired, and empowered action. You won’t want to miss this!

Emotional Intelligence for Teachers and Students

Being in school is an emotional experience for everyone. Students, teachers, administrators, and parents all experience a range of emotions and exchange them fluidly. In fact, recent research shows that emotions are contagious and caught more easily than the common cold (Fowler & Christakis, 2008). Students, teachers, and parents are more stressed and anxious because of school than ever before.  Furthermore, at-risk students are affected at a disproportionately high rate, enduring extreme stressors outside of school in addition to those while at school.

In this workshop, teachers will learn the science behind the toxic stress that inhibits many students from reaching their potential as a learner and strategies teachers can implement to help create a safe, low-stress, and positive environment in their classroom. Teachers will learn techniques to increase their own emotional intelligence to reduce their emotional exhaustion. Furthermore, they’ll gain tools to create genuine bonds with their students, fellow teachers, and administrators. Most importantly, teachers will receive tools from the latest research regarding effective practices to transform students who seem unmotivated and may have failed a subject repeatedly. Studies show being emotionally connected is the secret ingredient to a student’s resilience and success in school. Learn to be the cause of positive emotional contagion, thereby creating an open, inviting, and safe environment for all students to thrive.

Culturally Responsive Communities

Culture and ethnicity play a central role in our students’ lives in and out of school. A key part of a successful school is becoming aware of and responding to diverse cultures. The first step in this process is creating a culturally proficient staff.

Through this workshop teachers and administrators (and parents!) will better understand themselves in order to understand others. Their journey of self-discovery and empathy-building will give access to vital skills for collaborating across cultures, backgrounds, and experiences, as well as a common language to communicate effectively around such sensitive topics. Participants will engage in activities aimed to build a safe and understanding culture among staff, modeling what teachers can also do with their students. Leadership will be trained to develop a school climate where student achievement improves for all demographic groups and students from any background.

Education for Social Action

Teachers have colossal pressure to prepare students for standardized tests which can lead to a narrowed overall vision for the purpose of education. While acquiring knowledge and developing critical thinking skills are imperative, the future of the K-12 schooling system is destined for a much greater purpose. Transformed pedagogy realizes that the purpose of education is to help develop the individual better understand and improve themselves, the world around them, and ultimately help them realize how they can take part in making it a better place.

In this workshop, discover how to augment your curriculum to bring social action to the forefront of learning. By refocusing the “why” behind everything we teach and the sense of urgency to which youth can contribute to the world, we inherently address the root causes of motivation and anxiety amongst students. Teachers and administrators will shift the focus and paradigm in which their curriculum lives and is experienced by students. With this intention, students will also find a renewed sense of purpose for their formal education, and more importantly for their lives as a whole.

Conscious Leadership For Educators

The role of a teacher does not begin in the classroom, it begins in their hearts. A teacher’s sense of self, their conceptual framework of the world, their principles and convictions, their own sense of purpose in life, will determine the type of educator that they will be in the classroom, it will define how they see the students and their motivation to guide them.

This workshop aims to unravel the educator’s innate potential to become a conscious leader in their field and to tap into their innermost human capabilities to serve the students as a light in their path to self-discovery. Conscious leadership is defined as the human capacity to take initiative to serve others and to bring out the innate powers of those around us, to be coherent in thoughts and actions and persevering in our endeavors.
